Eric Domuret – Playwright, Actor, Director, Voice Artist, Educator
Eric Domuret is a playwright, actor, director, voice artist, and educator whose passion for storytelling has shaped his career in theatre, musical theatre, and academia. With over two decades of experience in the performing arts, Eric is dedicated to fostering meaningful, thought-provoking theatrical experiences both on stage and in the classroom.
He serves as the Chair of the Drama Department at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, where he has been instrumental in revitalizing the program. Under his leadership, the department offers a BA in Drama and is launching Houston’s only BFA in Musical Theatre in Fall 2025. In addition to his academic work, Eric is the Artistic Director of Stoic Theatre, UST’s resident theatre company, which produces bold, innovative works that engage with the university and broader Houston community.
At the heart of his work is his dedication to his students. As an educator, Eric has mentored a new generation of theatre artists, preparing them for careers in performance, directing, writing, and beyond. Many of Eric’s former students have gone on to successful careers in both film and theatre, including on Broadway. Their accomplishments stand as a testament to his dedication as a mentor, equipping them with the skills, discipline, and artistic integrity needed to thrive in the industry. Whether performing on the world’s biggest stages, working behind the scenes, or creating their own original works, his students continue to make their mark in the performing arts.
Playwright
As a playwright, Eric crafts works that explore themes of home, identity, family, and human connection. His most recent play, August Mother, had its world premiere with Stoic Theatre at UST under the direction of Alric Davis, an award-winning director known for his work at the Alley Theatre. August Mother resonated deeply with audiences, including the students who brought the production to life, giving them the opportunity to work on a new, original play and engage in a professional-level rehearsal process.
Eric is also the author of a celebrated stage adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, which has been published by Heartland Plays and continues to be performed nationwide. He actively involves his students in his writing and adaptation process, giving them the chance to develop their craft alongside a working playwright and gain firsthand insight into the journey from page to stage.

He often encourages his students to explore the growing field of voice work, offering guidance on vocal performance, microphone technique, and industry opportunities.
Director & Educator
As a director and educator, Eric is deeply committed to his students' growth. He believes in creating an environment that is challenging, inspiring, and deeply collaborative. His productions, whether at UST or beyond, give students the chance to work alongside professional artists, providing them with real-world experience and connections in the theatre industry.
He is also the driving force behind Ampersand, UST’s bi-annual 10-minute play festival, which celebrates both national playwrights and emerging student writers. Now in its 10th year, Ampersand has become a launchpad for new voices in theatre, allowing students to see their original works performed in front of an audience. The festival has led to students winning playwriting awards, landing professional opportunities, and gaining confidence in their artistic abilities.
Eric has shared his insights and expertise internationally as a featured speaker at the IUGTE Theatre Conference in Carrara, Italy, where he engaged in discussions about theatre pedagogy, performance techniques, and the evolving landscape of storytelling. His passion for education is evident not just in his own work but in the successes of his students, who continue to carry forward the principles of strong storytelling, rigorous craft, and artistic integrity that he instills in them.

When he’s not in rehearsal, the classroom, or recording in the booth, Eric enjoys life in Houston, Texas, with his wife and their five children, whose ages range from 11 to 19.
